The never-ending torrent of lame one-off parody-covered number one issues would eventually be the strategy of Dave Sim in his post-artist phase, with nightmarishly-bad results. For the record, your one-shots have always been filed with their parent title in our back-issue bins (with BIZARRE HEROES and BORDER WORLDS filed separately).
There was a time when I had only done two discrete things -- Megaton Man and Border Worlds -- and then I wanted to go back to the first thing. I had my second wind and a plan, and the editor was all in.
I told the publisher the renumbering was stupid and would confuse me and make it more difficult for me to proceed in a narrative sense. They told me this was "prima donna posturing."
What a nightmare my last three years with Kitchen Sink Press was. I hated every minute of it.
