Process: Supertopia Sequence Two
For the Amanda Stella Powers and Tom Powers graphic novel-musical
Herewith are pages 5 through 10 of a sequence I am working on for Amanda Stella Powers and Tom Powers’ “musical” graphic novel Supertopia (I posted pages 1 through 4 previously).
Supertopia is based on Tom’s book for a proposed musical. It’s a story of diversity, identity, and true love—and it is something America desperately needs at this dark and perilous moment.
This sequence overall looks to be a 15-page prologue (or a flashback, if you prefer) that will appear after the main body of the graphic novel, which is over 200 pages. There will be minimal text on this sequence and I will pencil, ink, and letter this sequence from Amanda’s plot-script; Amanda will color.
Amanda and Tom were important contributors to the recently released Megaton Man: Multimensions, which featured not only Tom and Amanda’s comics but also Amanda’s brilliant coloring on several other stories and their editorial consultation on the project as a whole.
I have already blown up these 5.5” x 8.5” rough thumbnail layouts and traced them in graphite pencil onto 11” x 17” Bristol board. I will post those soon and plan to complete the pages in ink during Inktober.
Stay tuned for more process on this piece as it unfolds—I’m looking forward to the final results!
